AI: pick how you want to handle it
The Kinhold assistant isn't a chatbot, it's a doer. Each request is one thing the assistant performs for you: create a task, schedule an event, parse a recipe, look up a vault entry, answer a question about your family's data. AI is fully unbundled from the base plan. Pay for it only if you choose a tier.
No AI cost
Don't want AI in your family's hub? Toggle the assistant off. Every other feature works exactly the same.
Plug in your Anthropic, OpenAI, or OpenRouter key. Your usage goes straight to the provider. The power-user path.

Casual family use. Adding tasks, parsing the occasional recipe, asking the assistant a few questions a day.
Steady AI-forward use across all family members. Comfortable headroom for everyday tasks plus light MCP usage.

What counts as a request?
- One thing the assistant does or answers. "Add dentist Tuesday at 2" is one request. So is "What's on Mia's chore list?"
- Calls from external MCP clients (Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, Cursor) count too. One tool call, one request.
- Regular actions inside the app (clicking a button, editing a task by hand, viewing the calendar) cost nothing. The AI tier only meters AI requests.
What your money covers
Each request runs two LLM turns on Claude Haiku 4.5: one to call the right tool, one to respond. We estimate the raw API cost at roughly $0.0042 per request once you account for cached context, fresh input tokens, and output.
At typical usage (around 70% of the daily cap), about 12% of what you pay is left over after covering the Anthropic bill. That margin goes toward server costs, backups, support, and keeping the software updated. There's no hidden markup layered on top.
If you'd rather skip that overhead entirely, BYO key is the right path. Your requests go straight to Anthropic, we make nothing on AI, and you pay only what Anthropic charges. It exists because we'd rather you use the app than feel like the pricing is unfair.
These are estimates based on typical request shapes. Actual cost varies with message length and how much history the assistant needs to carry.
If a family hit 100% of their cap every day of the month, we'd lose money on AI at every tier. We priced for real-world usage, not the worst case.
Numbers are placeholders during beta. We'll lock them in before charging anyone a cent and email the waitlist first.
